Despite recent racist comments about politicians of color and civil rights figures, Donald Trump claimed that he is the “least racist person in the world.”
He made that claim Tuesday morning outside of the White House, before boarding Marine One.
Trump has been facing criticism in recent weeks for several racist remarks. It started with attacks on “The Squad,” four Democratic congresswomen of color. But since those initial racially-charged comments, telling them to “go back” to where they came from, Trump has since lashed out at congressman and civil rights leader Elijah Cummings, making comments about urban blight and poverty in his district.
He also attacked reverend Al Sharpton, calling him a “con man” who is “always looking for a score,” adding that he “hates whites & cops.”
According to critics, these attacks on Sharpton, Cummings, and “The Squad” are problematic because Trump has not similarly attacked white politicians in the same manner.
And regardless of Trump’s claim, a new a new poll shows that a majority of Americans also agree with those critics and believe he is a racist.
