Trump Takes No Responsibility for Disinfectant Ingestion Spike

On Monday, President Donald Trump says that he doesn’t take responsibility for any spike in people improperly using disinfectants. This comes after Trump suggested that ingesting disinfectant might work as a coronavirus treatment.

The U.S. has officially seen one million coronavirus cases. When Trump was asked about the increase in people using disinfectant after his comments were made, he said, “I can’t imagine why.”

When a reporter asked Trump if he takes any personal responsibility for the increase, Trump replied, “No, I don’t.”

On Sunday, Republican Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan said that his state fielded hundreds of calls. They were from people asking if ingesting disinfectant was a valid coronavirus treatment.

“I think it is critical that the President of the United States, when people are really scared and in the middle of this worldwide pandemic, that in these press conferences, that we really get the facts out there,” said Hogan to Margaret Brennan on CBS’ “Face the Nation.”

How a Spike in Household Cleaner Ingestion Followed Trump’s Comments

Following Donald Trump’s comments on ingesting cleaners last week, New York suffered a spike of people fearing that they’d ingested bleach or other household cleaners.

As a result, between 9 pm on Thursday and 3 pm on Friday, the Poison Control Center said they managed a total of 30 cases. These were for possible exposure to disinfectants.

It was during Thursday night’s briefing that Trump suggested the cure. He said injecting disinfectants into the lungs of patients might help.

“Because you see it gets in the lungs and it does a tremendous number on the lungs. So it’d be interesting to check that. It sounds interesting to me,” said President Trump.

However, he later said he was just being sarcastic. He didn’t really mean it.

Group Peddling Bleach as COVID-19 Cure Wrote to Trump Last Week

It has been revealed that a leader of a group that has been peddling industrial bleach as a “miracle cure” wrote to Donald Trump. Is this why Trump suggested ingesting bleach?

In his letter, Mark Grenon told the President that chlorine dioxide is “a wonderful detox that can kill 99% of the pathogens in the body,” and that it could “rid the body of Covid-19” (not to be confused with detox from alcohol).

Coincidentally, a few days after the letter arrived, Trump said disinfectant “knocks [the virus] out in a minute. One minute!”

Hours after Trump spoke of disinfectant on Friday, Grenon wrote in a Facebook post that the President had gotten the message.

As a result, he wrote, “Trump has got the MMS and all the info!!! Things are happening folks! Lord help others to see the Truth!”
