Medical Experts Urge for the US to Shut Down and Start Over, and Disney Pushes Avatar Sequel Back By a Year.
More than 150 scientists, medical experts, nurses, and teachers have now signed a letter urging for the country to shut down. They believe that is what it’ll take for the country to be able to safely contain the coronavirus so that the US can start over.
“The best thing for the nation is not to reopen as quickly as possible, it’s to save as many lives as possible,” said the letter, which was sent to the Trump admin on Thursday.
“Right now, we are on a path to lose more than 200,000 American lives by November 1st. Yet, in many states, people can drink in bars, get a haircut, eat inside a restaurant, get a tattoo, get a massage, and do myriad other normal, pleasant, but non-essential activities.”
Statisticians from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention included a dire prediction in a letter to CNN. They say that Covid-19 “will end up as a Top 10 leading cause of death” this year. To repeat, we’re not talking things like severe arthritis treatment.
The letter warned that “if you don’t take these actions, the consequences will be measured in widespread suffering and death.”
Matt Wellington, the public health campaigns director for the advocacy group US PIRG, said, “our decision-makers need to hit the reset button.”
“Continuing on the path we’re on now will result in widespread suffering and death. And for what? Health experts laid out criteria for how to reopen safely. It’s time to listen to them.”

Thanks to the coronavirus pandemic Disney had to make a very difficult decision. The much-anticipated Avatar sequel is now being pushed back by an entire year. The sequel was initially supposed to be released in 2014. However, the vision director James Cameron has in mind has been hard for production to match. To be sure, isn’t unsurprising.
The sequel was expected to be released on December 21, 2021. As a result of the pandemic, it is now delayed until at least December 16, 2022. Sadly, this means additional sequels planned to follow the second will now also be delayed in this order:
A statement was released by James Cameron about the decision:
“Due to COVID-19, we were forced into an unexpected lengthy delay in starting the live-action filming we are currently doing in New Zealand. The pandemic is still preventing us from being allowed to recommence most of our virtual production work on stages in Los Angeles.”
However, time will tell whether the movies will actually become a reality. Here’s hoping!
