New $98-a-year Subscription Service Revealed by Walmart

Walmart revealed a new subscription service on Tuesday. As a result, this means Walmart will be going head-to-head with Amazon Prime’s shipping service.

Walmart’s new plan includes free shipping on items priced $35 and over, and same-day deliveries for some items. Membership will also include the ability to scan items via the app to pay without waiting in a checkout line, and 5-cent-per-gallon discounts on gasoline.

However, Walmart’s service lacks some benefits that Amazon provides. For example, no minimum purchase is required by Amazon. With Walmart’s service, no streaming benefits are included either, such as movies, tv shows, music, or photo storage.

Walmart says they plan to add more features over time. The new Walmart+ service will begin on September 15.

However, Chuck Grom, an analyst at Gordon Haskett Research Advisors, has some reservations. He said, “The jury is still out on the ultimate potential of this new offering.”

This is because he believes consumers are “overloaded” with subscription options and he isn’t sure if they’ll be willing to pay an additional $98-per-year for yet another new service.

Regardless, such a service might come in handy if you’re in need of emergency liquid makeup foundation or similar.

Pilots Report Man Flying a Jetpack Over Los Angeles

A strange call came into LAX concerning a man flying a jetpack. Yes, you heard that right. An unidentified man was flying a jetpack over Los Angeles.

The incident was first reported by an American Airlines flight. They reported a “guy in a jetpack” at an altitude of 3,000 feet above Los Angeles Airport on Sunday. The man was reportedly 30 yards away from the aircraft. As a result, the FBI is now looking into the matter.

Audio between traffic control, Jet Blue and American flight crews was obtained by CNN.

“Tower. American 1997. We just passed a guy on a jetpack,” said the first plane. “Off the left side, maybe 300—30 yards or so. About our altitude.”

Another plane spotted the man 10 minutes later.

“We just saw the guy fly by us on the jetpack,” said the crew.

Air traffic control warned JetBlue to “use caution… person on a jetpack reported 300 yards south.” The controller remarked, “Only in LA,” after the plane acknowledged the warning.

The Federal Aviation Administration said, “officials have alerted local law enforcement to the reports and is looking into these reports.”
