Trump Tests Positive for Coronavirus, Quarantines in White House

President Trump announced early Friday that he and Melania Trump have tested positive for COVID-19. The diagnosis amounts to the most serious health threat a sitting president has faced in decades.

Trump is 74 years old and is considered obese. This puts him into the highest risk category for serious complications. So far, the coronavirus has killed more than 200,000 Americans.

Shortly before 1 a.m. Friday, President Trump tweeted:

“Tonight, @FLOTUS and I tested positive for COVID-19. We will begin our quarantine and recovery process immediately. We will get through this TOGETHER!”

The first lady also wrote on Twitter. She said she and her husband are “feeling good.”

Trump was recently seen in public on Thursday when he returned to the White House.

The president’s physician, Navy Cmdr. Dr. Sean Conley, wrote that he received confirmation of the tests on Thursday evening.

“The President and First Lady are both well at this time. And they plan to remain at home within the White House during their convalescence,” wrote Conley.

“The White House medical team and I will maintain a vigilant watch. And I appreciate the support provided by some of our country’s greatest medical professionals and institutions,” he continued.

“Rest assured I expect the President to continue carrying out his duties without disruption while recovering. And I will keep you updated on any further developments.”

Was Joe Biden Exposed to COVID-19 During the Debate?

Thanks to Trump testing positive, there are now concerns that Democratic nominee Joe Biden could have also been exposed. During the recent presidential debate, there were health precautions put in place. However, there were some attendees who did not adhere to them.

Neither Trump nor Biden wore a mask during the debate. The moderator, Chris Wallace, also did not wear a mask.

Prearranged plans for the debate allowed Trump, Biden, and Wallace to speak freely without masks since the nominees were considered to be standing a safe distance away.

Photographs from the event show that Melania Trump did not wear a mask when she joined her husband on stage. However, Jill Biden did wear a mask when she joined Joe Biden.

Another concern is how the president, his family, and staffers often do not follow CDC guidelines. More positive test results may be revealed over the weekend.
