President Donald Trump recently said he was “not happy” in response to North Korea’s recent short-range missile tests.
However, the POTUS apparently changed his mind over the weekend. During a visit to Japan, Trump said, “I am very happy with the way it’s going, and intelligent people agree with me,” in regards to North Korean diplomacy.
The comments contradict those of White House National Security Advisor John Bolton, who said during the same trip there was “no doubt” the ballistic missile launches violated UN Security policy. Japan Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s comments had a similar tone.
When Trump was pressed further as to whether he was bothered by the missiles, he responded, “No I’m not. I am personally not.”
Trump also took the time to apparently bond with Kim Jong-un over the dislike of a common opponent.
“Kim Jong-un made a statement that Joe Biden is a low-IQ individual,” said Trump about the former Vice President and current Democratic nominee for the 2020 election.
“He probably is, based on his record. I think I agree with him on that. But, at the same time, my people think it could have been a violation, as you know. I view it differently. I view it as a man—perhaps he wants to get attention, and perhaps not. Who knows? It doesn’t matter.”
The President added that “There have been no ballistic missiles going out,” in regards to the incident he previously acknowledged as occurring. Trump also went on to call Kim Jong-un a “very smart man”.
