Trump is blaming this as the reason he appears orange, and says it makes others appear orange as well – light bulbs.
Despite the fact that most people don’t have as much of an orange… luster, Trump is claiming that the lighting is responsible for making his sprayed-on complexion look so unnatural.
Ironically, the bulbs in question are high-efficiency bulbs, and the White House has announced it’ll be rolling back energy efficiency regulations. There’s been no word from the president as to whether lightbulbs are to blame for the white circles around his eyes, too.
During a speech at a recent House Republican retreat dinner, Trump made the following head-scratching statement: “People said what’s with the light bulb? I said here’s the story, and I looked at it: The bulb that we’re being forced to use — No. 1, to me, most importantly, the light’s no good. I always look orange.”
The audience laughed at the mention of Trump’s trademark color, which his administration has insisted is the result of “good genes.” When looking at his parentage, it’s hard to take that claim at face value. Fred Trump rarely looked tanner than printer paper, and Mary Trump often looked like a porcelain doll.
If Trump’s got golden bronze skin in his genetics, then one of his parents is lying.
It’s all fun and games to rib the president over his unusual orange tint. However, this story takes on a decidedly darker tone when you remember the policies the Trump Administration is pursuing. Recently, the White House has promised rollbacks on energy efficiency regulations.
Despite the US producing almost as much carbon impact as China despite having significantly fewer people, corporate interests want deregulation and increased emissions. The actions taken recently roll back Obama-era regulations ensuring lightbulbs hit a certain efficiency threshold.
Inefficient, incandescent bulbs are not only less efficient – drawing more energy, but they also burn out significantly more quickly. This means, on top of burning more power, these bulbs fill up landfills much more quickly.
One wonders if Trump’s joking statements hide a kernel of truth in his current anti-efficiency initiatives.
