Super Tuesday: Biden Scores Most Delegates While Sanders Wins Biggest Prize

In what is most likely the biggest comeback in modern political history, Joe Biden did remarkably well on Super Tuesday, after doing not so great in earlier primaries where he came in fourth.

Is this the beginning of the end for Sanders, or a temporary upset as a result of other democrats suddenly dropping out and endorsing Biden before Super Tuesday?

At the time of writing, Biden has 554 delegates vs Sanders’ 488–with a difference of 66 delegates, both still have a chance at winning the nomination.

Bloomberg has 51 delegates and has since dropped out, while Warren has secured 61.

Democratic Endorsements Led to Joe Biden’s Success on Super Tuesday

After other democratic candidates dropped out of the race, their followers quickly flocked to who their preferred candidates endorsed: Joe Biden. This might explain how he did so well on Super Tuesday.

One voter, Karen Badon, told CNN that she “saw all these people dropping out and they were all endorsing Biden, and I thought, ‘Biden is the one who can be elected.’ So I did not mail in my ballot. I went to vote today, tore up my ballot, and voted for Biden.”

Joe Biden Did Better Than Expected, Still Hope for Sanders After Winning California

Thanks to the endorsements of the other candidates and Warren remaining in the race, Biden was able to land surprising wins over Sen. Bernie Sanders in Minnesota, Texas, and Massachusetts.

However, their delegate count remains close overall, thanks to Sanders winning big in California. Time will tell if Biden is able to keep his lead, with even more primaries happening in March, six states reporting on March 10, and several other primaries scheduled through the end of the month.

Super Tuesday Was a Bad Night for Elizabeth Warren

It was a bad night for Elizabeth Warren, especially, who even lost her home state of Massachusetts to former Vice President Joe Biden. Despite her loss, her campaign has signaled that they plan to stay in the race, in an email that reminded supporters to continue donating as six more primaries are a week away.

Of course, President Donald Trump was quick to comment on Warren’s loss on Twitter, via his apparently robust cellular phone plan, saying, “Elizabeth “Pocahontas” Warren, other than Mini Mike, was the loser of the night. She didn’t even come close to winning her home state of Massachusetts. Well, now she can just sit back with her husband and have a nice cold beer!”

It is worth noting that Donald Trump also lost his home state of New York during the 2016 Presidential election.

Elizabeth Warren made it clear that she is still looking ahead during an early evening speech in Detroit on Tuesday.

“Predictions are a terrible business. Pundits have gotten it wrong over and over. Cast a vote that will make you proud. Vote from your heart. And vote for the person who you think will make the best president of the United States.”
