This well-known and beloved Seinfeld actor’s body was found partially consumed by scavengers after being left in the elements.
After falling down a steep slope in Oregon, the actor appears to have sustained injuries that lead to him passing away in a remote area. According to the final report, his body was found wedged between two trees.
The actor, Charles Levin, was reported missing by his son on June 28. His body was discovered by authorities on July 13. In the intervening time between his disappearance and discovery, it seems his remains had been thoroughly picked over by scavengers, likely turkey vultures.
While it’s unclear what the events leading up to the actor’s tragic passing included, there are some theories as to what may have happened.
Investigators surmised that Levin was driving along a remote region in Oregon while looking for a new home he had recently purchased. The residence is in an area that is notoriously difficult to traverse, in or out of a vehicle. GPS signal is weak in the area, and most people report losing cell service so deep into the wilderness.
When Levin’s vehicle was discovered, it had several bangs and dents, apparently from running into trees. Sadly, investigators also found Levin’s pet dog, “Boo Boo Bear,” inside the vehicle, who had passed from being locked inside. The vehicle was stuck in dirt, and Levin had apparently tried to dislodge it before going off to look for help.
Even when conducting their search, authorities found the dense tangle of undergrowth and deep wilderness paths all but impassable. Several times, the police were turned around and lost due to the labyrinthine nature of the area.
After leaving their vehicles behind, they managed to find Levin’s Fiat on foot. Shortly after, they found the actor’s body at the bottom of a steep, thirty-foot slope. A recovery team had to use a rope-and-pulley system to retrieve it.
The actor’s passing has been ruled as an accident, as no signs of foul play were found at his vehicle or around his body.
