Secret Letter by Prince Shows He Loathed these Two Singers

Prince hated these two singers, according to secret notes found in his Minnesota home.

The revelatory letter was found among his old things by a Prince superfan named Dan Piepenbring, who was hired by Prince to work on his memoir before he passed away in 2016.

The famously outrageous public persona of the artist was often in stark contrast with his milder, softer personal life. In fact, Prince often flummoxed reporters by being so tight-lipped about his personality off-stage, insisting the topic remain on his work.

As such, Piepenbring’s discovery is something of a bombshell: harsh words for the music industry from the famously professional Prince.

What Else Was Found in Prince’s Old Belongings?

After Piepenbring spent time going through old letters, journal entries, song notes and the like in Prince’s estate, he amassed a considerable amount of material. In fact, the author found enough material to help complete a book about Prince, titled The Beautiful Ones, which is set to release today.

Piepenbring described the process of going through Prince’s estate, remarking on how surreal it all was. “The sheer quantity of paper was surprising… In one room you’d find something from 1979, and within arm’s reach there’d be something from 2002.” The author, sadly, was only able to work with Prince for three months before the singer’s untimely passing from an accidental drug overdose.

Which Singers did Prince Secretly Hate, According to the Letter?

While Prince was mum to ever speak out about his personal views in front of the press, he certainly wasn’t afraid to share his opinions in personal letters. One such letter, unearthed by Piepenbring, saw Prince at his most fiery, accusing the music industry of trying to shove certain singers down the public’s throats. The main targets of his ire?

Ed Sheeran and Katy Perry. While we can agree with his assessment that both singers were overexposed, his assertion that “We don’t like [their music] no matter how many times they play it,” might be a bit harsh. Okay, well, maybe that’s true of Ed Sheeran’s more overplayed songs. We’re kidding, of course, we love Ed!

Well, there you have it. Prince was no fan of California Girls or x, no matter how much the music industry wanted them to be huge.
