R. Kelly’s Jail Woes, Only Allowed One Girlfriend

Only one girlfriend is being allowed to visit accused criminal and former R&B musician R. Kelly. Well, only one girlfriend at a time is being allowed to visit him.

Kelly has been held in a Chicago prison since July on charges of racketeering, exploitation of a crime, kidnapping, forced labor and more.

Steven Greenberg, Kelly’s lawyer, has griped publicly about the visitation limits on his client. Greenberg filed a motion on Monday urging that his client be allowed more than one person to visit him at a time, though he also indicated his client shouldn’t be jailed in the first place.

What’s in Greenberg’s Motion?

The New York-based lawyer stated that Kelly’s visitation is too strict. “His visits are severely restricted; presently,” Greenberg alleges in the motion.

“He is only allowed one unrelated person to visit. In other words, although he lives and has lived with two lady friends, only one of them is allowed to be on his visiting list, and after 90 days he is required to switch. No other friends or professional colleagues are allowed to visit. That is not right.”

Greenberg goes on to assert that Kelly shouldn’t even be jailed while awaiting his trial, as he is “not a flight risk” and “doesn’t pose a threat” to his alleged victims. The judge in the case seems to disagree on both counts, as Kelly is being held without bail until his trial begins.

What did R. Kelly do?

Kelly’s alleged crimes are numerous, to say the least. The former R&B singer has been accused of running a “cult-like” operation, and details of his wrongdoing are documented in the special Surviving R. Kelly. After the aforementioned show brought closer attention to Kelly’s activity, charges were leveled against the singer.

This is hardly Kelly’s first time dealing with these accusations. In fact, R. Kelly has been dealing with some form of assault allegations for nearly thirty years. Essentially, as long as Kelly has been in the spotlight, criminal cases have surrounded him. Time will tell what skeletons in the closet this latest trial will uncover.
