Fans are sad about Nicki Minaj’s news that she shared on Twitter yesterday.
After making a major name for herself in the music scene and topping the charts for years, Minaj shared out of nowhere that she plans on retiring from music, effective immediately, and will focus on having a family.
She has since apologized for the “abrupt” tweet but stands by her actions. Sources close to Minaj, however, say that her words don’t line up with her actions. Is she simply taking a step back to focus on her relationship with fiancé Kenneth Petty, or is this really an end of her career?
Her news came out of nowhere and took Twitter by storm.
She says that she knows “you guys are happy now”, potentially targeting the trolls that Minaj has had to deal with in recent months. Minaj has come under heavy fire recently due to accusations that she doesn’t write her own music and questions about her hip-hop legacy and authenticity.
Minaj is 36, so it is possible that she has found a man she loves – Petty, a registered sex offender who has spent several years in jail for several different crimes – and wants to settle down and have somewhat of a ‘normal’ life.
She shared in June that the two got their marriage license, and her display name on Twitter is “Mrs. Petty”, but there is no word if a wedding has taken place.
According to sources close to Minaj, her move to retire now makes absolutely zero sense based on her actions.
She has been writing and recording new music as recently as last month and apparently has several songs completely finished. She has time in a studio booked out until next month as well, so she has clearly been planning to continue making music.
In June, she confirmed that she was working on a new album when she was on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. But now, those plans seem to have gone to the wayside.
The real question now is, is Nicki already pregnant and making this decision based on that fact? The answer right now is “no”, but we will find out for sure in a few months!
She promised in a reply to one fan’s concerns on Twitter that she will further discuss her decision on Queen Radio, her podcast available through Apple.
