News of the original cast returning is sure to excite Harry Potter fans! When the curtain fell on the Deathly Hallows Pt. 2, many fans weren’t quite ready to say goodbye to the wizarding world.
After growing up with the stories of Harry, Ron, and Hermione, it was a bit jarring to have no further adventures starring those characters to look forward to.
Thankfully for fans of the hit movies, Warner Bros. is planning a proper sequel to the original films. The Broadway production Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, which has seen good reviews and better fan turnout, will be the basis of the sequel, and the original cast from the first eight films will be reprising their roles.
When the credits rolled on the final Potter film, the execs over at Warner Bros. knew that it was the end of an era for them. The franchise is guaranteed ticket sales, so clearly they needed something to fill the void. After the positive reception of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, the studio seemed convinced that the Beasts series was going to be their new gold mine, and the studio announced a five-movie series based on those characters.
However, The Crimes of Grindelwald, the sequel to Beasts, got a less than enthusiastic reception from both fans and critics. As such, it’s no surprise that the studio is turning back to the core cast of Hogwarts-going wizards and witches.
The Cursed Child production was quite the phenomenon when it was announced. After all, it was the first new story in the Harry Potter universe in years. With the news that Rupert Grint, Emma Watson, and Daniel Radcliffe are all reprising their original roles, fans are more than a little excited to see their favorites all grown up and making their way in the wizarding world.
What’s more, this could easily set the stage for the main cast’s children to take the spotlight and get a film series of their own. After all, there are still tons of stories to tell in the wide world of magic and monsters the Rowling created!
