A Spokesman for US Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said today that he fell Sunday afternoon in his Louisville, Kentucky home, fracturing his shoulder. McConnell has reportedly been treated for his injuries and is resting at home.
He plans to “continue to work” from home while he recovers. The 77-year-old apparently fell on his outdoor patio.
Mitch McConnell has been in the media spotlight a lot recently, and it hasn’t been great for him. He has recently acquired the new nickname “Moscow Mitch”, which refers to his soft approach on Russian election tampering in the 2016 presidential elections.
On Saturday, just a day before his tumble, he attended a major political event in Kentucky called “Fancy Farm”. His speech was drowned out in parts with protesters chanting “Moscow Mitch”, some of whom wore shirts with the name across them sporting the Communist-style hammer and sickle.
In light of the two major mass shootings within twenty-four hours in the US, the hashtag Massacre Mitch has been trending in reference to McConnell’s apparent lack of willingness to address gun control and reform in the senate.
In February, he blocked a vote that would require full background checks to be run against every person who wishes to purchase a gun.
There’s no word on how extensive McConnell’s injuries are, or how long he will be out of his office.
