Face Masks Now Mandatory Amid Rising Cases

On Thursday, California Gov. Gavin Newsom issued a statewide order. The order requires Californians to wear face coverings in high-risk settings. It follows guidance from the California Department of Public Health.

“Our numbers are going up, not going down. Hospitalization numbers are just starting to creep back up, and I’m very concerned by what we’re seeing,” said Newsom to Los Angeles’ ABC7.

“We think the most impactful thing we can do, short of going back to a stay-at-home order, is wearing face coverings when we can’t practice physical distancing,” he added.

The Department of Public Health explained, “The use of face coverings by everyone can limit the release of infected droplets when talking, coughing, and/or sneezing, as well as reinforce physical distancing.”

Newsom said the step was necessary because “we have many municipalities that require mandatory mask-wearing and people are simply not applying it.”

In other words, soon even the local roofing contractor will probably need to wear a mask when doing their job.

Queen Latifah Has Thoughts About ‘Gone With the Wind’

HBO Max recently caused headlines when they decided to yank “Gone With the Wind” from its streaming service. They called the classic film ‘racist.’ However, the 1939 film won eight Academy Awards, which included the first ever award for a black woman.

And Queen Latifah says that’s just fine with her.

Queen Latifah portrays Hattie McDaniel in the new Netflix series, “Hollywood.” McDaniel won an Oscar for her portrayal of Mammy in Gone With the Wind.

“Let ‘Gone with the Wind’ be gone with the wind,” proclaimed Latifah.

She said that the way McDaniel was treated during the 1940 Oscars ceremony was awful.

“They didn’t even let her in the theater until right before she got that award. Someone came outside and brought her into the auditorium. She wasn’t even allowed to sit in there. And then she had to read a speech that was written by a studio. You know that’s not what the hell she wanted to say,” said Latifah.

“Then after that, all she could do was play the same kinds of roles … So the opportunities at that time and the way that those in power in that business were relegating us and marginalizing us and not allowing us to grow and thrive after that was just terrible,” said Latifah. “And a lot of that is still around today.”

The cancellation of ‘Gone With the Wind’ is one the latest moves resulting from the cancel culture originating from the death of George Floyd.
