Amy Klobuchar Withdraws From VP Pick Consideration

Sen. Klobuchar has announced that she no longer wants to be considered as a running mate for Joe Biden. On Thursday night, she made her announcement on MSNBC.

“Since I endorsed the vice president on that joyful night in Dallas, I’ve never commented on this process at all. But let me tell you this after what I’ve seen in my state. What I’ve seen across the country. This is a historic moment and America must seize on this moment,” she said.

Calls for racial justice and police reform have reverberated nationwide since the killing of George Floyd at the hands of police in Minneapolis last month.

Klobuchar Reached Out to Biden, ‘This is a Moment’

As a result, Klobuchar said she reached out to Biden. She told him, “I truly believe… this is a moment to put a woman of color on that ticket.”

“There are so many incredibly qualified women. But if you want to heal this nation right now. My party, yes, but our nation, this is sure a hell of a way to do it. And that’s just what I think after being through this in my state,” said Klobuchar.

Potential VP picks include several women of color. Some of these include California Sen. Kamala Harris, Florida Rep. Val Demings, Stacey Abrams, New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham, and Susan Rice.

Recently, NPR reported that Biden is facing increased pressure from activists and black women leaders in the Democratic party to select a woman of color as his running mate.

Protests Continue Over George Floyd and Racial Justice

Over the past few weeks, peaceful protests have continued their fight for racial justice and to put an end to police brutality. People have been dedicating their time in various ways. Some have been hitting the streets, while others use their hp toner to print out flyers to hand out in support of the cause.

While many politicians have been in support of the movement, others have gone the other route. For example, Trump recently spread a conspiracy theory on Twitter about the origins of some protesters.
