Stacey Dash has been arrested for allegedly engaging in domestic violence against her new husband, Jeffrey Marty.
The police in Pasco County were called out to handle a domestic disturbance call that resulted in Dash’s arrest.
Additionally, it has been reported that Dash slapped and shoved Marty after the police arrived, and he allegedly had scratches on his arms. In response to this, as well as Marty’s apparently beaten-up state, the police took Dash into custody.
There’s a chaotic 911 call where one can hear Dash claim that her husband had assaulted her. On the call, it sounds as though Dash is claiming that Marty had put her in a chokehold. Video from the time of the arrest shows that Dash does, in fact, have marks around her neck that might be consistent with this.
According to Dash, the situation began to escalate when Marty’s 15-year-old daughter “got in her face.” Marty and Dash have been married for roughly one year, though their relationship has been largely away from the public eye. As such, not much is known about Marty’s daughter.
During the arrest, Dash can be heard striking up a conversation with one of the officers. The officer asks what she does and where she’s from. Dash briefly explains who she is and that she starred in Clueless. She also touches on her stint as a political correspondent.
Dash’s manager, Nick Terry, has released a statement claiming that reports of Dash being assaulted by Marty are untrue. It’s unclear, then, what Dash is referring to in the 911 call when she alleges that Marty had her “in a chokehold.” At present, Terry might be confused by the chaotic nature of the 911 call and arrest.
Dash is being held on $500 bail in Pasco County. It’s customary that, in domestic violence cases, the person being held in custody stays there for at least 24 hours as a “cool-off” period. This is, in theory, to keep the violence from boiling back over right away if the person can simply post bail.
It’s unclear at present if any charges will be pressed against Dash or Marty.
