Bolton Book Could Prove Problematic for Trump Administration

Ahead of the June 23 release date, John Bolton’s new book is causing a stir. Sources claim that the book includes new information about the president’s infamous Ukraine call. In his new book, the former national security advisor apparently reveals a number bombshell reveals. Bolton claims Trump threatened to cancel criminal investigations into dictators he had good ties with.

He specifies that the president made these threats with regards to China and Turkey in particular. Further, Bolton alleges that these claims should have been investigated in the 2019 impeachment inquiry into the president.

Bolton Faces Criticism From Many Sides

Bolton hasn’t exactly made any friends with his new book. Titled “The Room Where it Happened,” Bolton’s memoir has already landed him in hot water. The Trump administration has sued Bolton’s publisher to halt the book’s publication.

Even critics of Trump aren’t pleased about the book, though. Not due to its contents, though. Instead, Trump’s critics feel Bolton should have come forward with information about Trump’s misconduct during the impeachment inquiry. Holding the information back to sell a $2 million book deal is seen by many as a selfish cash-in.

Book Paints Grim Picture of Trump

According to excerpts leaked from the new book ahead of its release, it paints a dark picture of the president. Bolton, who worked closely with Trump as his third National Security Advisor, presents Trump as an unintelligent bully. According to Bolton, Trump was often easily swayed by flattery from foreign dictators.

In one segment, the New York Times writes, Bolton’s book tackle’s Trump’s lack of knowledge of world affairs. At one point. Bolton writes, Trump needed to be informed that Britain was a nuclear power. At another point, he was uncertain as to whether Finland was a part of Russia. Bolton even claims that Trump’s closest aids openly mock the president behind his back.

Trump Faces Rough November Election

The novel coronavirus pandemic has caused Trump’s approval to drop significantly in the US. While small business owners desperately search “marketing my business online,” Trump faces the prospect of losing the 2020 election. New polls show the President trailing opponent Joe Biden by a staggering 13 points nationally.

The Trump administration has made moves to block Bolton’s book, fearing it could further cement these low approval ratings. However, the book’s printing is done, and shipments have already been made. The New York Times has received a copy ahead of release. The cat, in this case, is out of the bag.
