Former White House Press Secretary Joe Lockhart has thoughts about whether Biden should debate Trump. His verdict? A straightforward NO.
Joe Lockhart penned an op-ed on CNN last week. He urged Biden to skip having a debate with President Trump before the November election. His reasoning? Trump won’t be honest.
“Whatever you do, don’t debate Trump,” he wrote. “Trump has made more than 20,000 misleading or false statements according to the Washington Post. It’s a fool’s errand to enter the ring with someone who can’t follow the rules or the truth.
“Biden will undoubtedly take heat from Republicans and the media for skipping the debates. But it’s worth the risk. As trying to debate someone incapable of telling the truth is an impossible contest to win.”
Similarly, Lockhart pointed out that recent polls are unfavorable for Trump. He said “every quantitative signal and historical precedent points to a surefire loss for the President in November.” Therefore, a debate against Trump may not even be necessary.
However, Lockhart also pointed out that Biden could still lose. But, it’d have to be a self-inflicted injury. He wrote that the polls should be ignored and instead, Biden should run like he is “10 points behind.”
The New York Times recently analyzed President Trump’s Twitter for a week. What they discovered is that Trump’s cell phone deals more falsehoods than truth.

Another op-ed was published on Saturday. It helps to explain why Trump doesn’t seem to be polling so well lately. Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman, a key impeachment witness against Trump, said the Trump administration is reminiscent of an “authoritarian regime.”
“At no point in my career or life have I felt our nation’s values under greater threat and in more peril than at this moment.
“Our national government during the past few years has been more reminiscent of the authoritarian regime my family fled more than 40 years ago than the country I have devoted my life to serving,” Vindman wrote, in reference to Ukraine, where he was born.
After spending 21 years in the military, Vindman chose to leave as the result of a “campaign of bullying, intimidation and retaliation.” He said what the Trump administration did to him “forever limited the progression” of his military career.
Vindman concluded his op-ed by saying, “Despite some personal turmoil, I remain hopeful for the future for both my family and for our nation.” He hopes to continue to “defend” the country after his retirement.
“I…believe in the American Dream,” he wrote. “I believe that in America, right matters. I want to help ensure that right matters for all Americans.”
