In Just 15 Days, 9,000 Children Tested Positive After Florida Schools Reopen; and Man Who Believed Coronavirus Is a Hoax Sadly Loses Wife to the Virus.
In only 15 days since Florida schools reopened, Florida has confirmed almost 9,000 new cases of Covid-19 among children. This is according to state data released on Tuesday. Specifically, there has been an increase of 8,995 cases since August 9.
7,282 of those cases, or more than 80 percent, were among children aged 5 to 17. During that same time frame, hospitalizations rose from 436 to 602. The total of child deaths rose to 8 overall. Statewide, there have been 10,580 fatalities related to Covid-19. This is according to the state’s department of health.
Reopening schools became a legal battle in Florida. This is thanks to an emergency order from Education Commissioner Richard Corcoran. The order mandated that “brick and mortar schools” hold at least five days of in-person instruction each week. Otherwise, they would risk losing much-needed funding.
On Monday, a judge in Florida halted that emergency order. He said it “essentially ignored” the state’s constitutional requirement that schools be run safely. It’s enough to make any parent seek out migraine headache relief.

Brian Lee Hitchens and his wife, like many others, believed that the coronavirus was a hoax. According to online claims, they thought the virus was a fabricated myth.
As a result, the couple didn’t bother following health guidelines. They didn’t seek help when they became sick in early May. Brian was able to recover, but sadly, his wife became critically ill and succumbed to the virus.
Brian said he and his wife switched between thinking the virus was linked to 5G networks, that it was a hoax, and that it was simply a mild ailment similar to the flu.
“We thought the government was using it to distract us,” said Brian. “or that it was to do with 5G.”
However, after losing his wife, Brian is now trying to warn others. He doesn’t want them to make the same mistake that he did.
“If you have to go out, please use wisdom and don’t be foolish like I was so the same thing won’t happen to you like it happened to me and my wife,” he wrote in a Facebook post.
Similarly, a Facebook spokesman spoke with the BBC regarding the misinformation on social media about the virus.
“We don’t allow harmful misinformation on our platforms and between April and June we removed more than seven million pieces of harmful Covid-19 misinformation. Including claims relating to false cures or suggestions that social distancing is ineffective.”
