Nerdy is the new cool. At least that’s what $3 million and an esports trophy says. The 16-year-old video game guru, Kyle “Bugha” Giersdorf took home the Fortnite World Cup Solos title and a load of cash during the weekend.
The Fortnite World Cup rewarded players with $30 million overall at Auther Ashe Stadium in New York. Giersdorf’s $3 million cash prize was more than any tennis player won this summer during Wimbledon.
While being interviewed, Giersdorf said that he plans on saving most of his prize money but also wants “a new desk and maybe a desk for my trophy.”
Fortnite is one of the most popular multiplayer online shooters with 250 million players all over the globe. A total of 40 million players competed in order to qualify for the weekend tournament in which “Bugha” Giersdorf was the last one standing to hoist the trophy.
