Three separate terror-related incidents occurred on Thursday, two in France and one in Saudi Arabia.
At the Notre Dame Basilica in Nice, France, three people were killed, two of them were beheaded, an elderly female parishioner and a male churchwarden. Another woman was fatally stabbed and several other people were wounded, Daily Mail reported.
Two hours later, a second terrorist suspect shouted: “Allahu Akbar,” (God’s greatest) threatening people on the streets of Avignon, roughly 120 miles from Nice, before being fatally shot by police.
Police have not given an official motive for the attack, but speculation is that the attacks could be provoked by French President Emmanuel Macron’s recent defense of the publication of cartoons that depicted the Prophet Mohammed.
In Saudi Arabia, a guard was attacked outside of the French Consulate in Jeddah. A suspect was arrested and the guard was hospitalized, BBC reported.
Nice Mayor Christian Estrosi called the deadly stabbing” terrorism.”
France is now on its maximum security alert status. French President Emmanuel Macron has announced that he will more than double the number of soldiers deployed to protect against attacks, the Associated Press reported. It is the third attack in two months in France.
Prime Minister Jean Castex told lawmakers Thursday, “With the attack against (teacher) Samual Paty, it was freedom of speech that was targeted. With this attack in Nice, it is freedom of religion.”
Republican officials in Wisconsin announced on Thursday that hackers have stolen $2.3 million from an account being used to help fund President Donald Trump’s reelection campaign, the Independent UK reported.
The suspicious activity was first noted on October 22 and the FBI is now investigating the matter, which appears to have started as a phishing scam.
Wisconsin is considered a key swing state in the 2020 election. In 2016, President Trump won the state by only 23,000 votes.
“There’s no doubt RPW is now at a disadvantage with that money being gone,” said Wisconsin Republican Party chairman Andrew Hitt.
The hackers manipulated invoices from four vendors who were being paid to send out direct mail for the Trump campaign, the Associated Press reported. Hackers allegedly altered the invoices to make direct payments to themselves.
