Trump’s Harsh Words Lead to Baltimore Cleanup Efforts

After President Trump attacked Baltimore as a “rat and rodent-infested mess,” some conservatives joined an effort to clean it up.

In response to Trump’s tweets about the city, one man decided to initiate a campaign to clean it up. Though he’s a resident of northern Virginia, Republican activist Scott Presler used social media to find volunteers for the effort.

Thanks to his relatively large following, Presler – a “gays for Trump” activist and conservative commentator – managed to garner a decent amount of support.

Nearly 300 people showed up on Monday to aid in the cleanup effort. Together they collected trash, raked, weeded, and generally spent the day trying to improve Maryland’s 7th congressional district. Many also signed a poster featuring the words “Americans Helping Americans.”

Presler made clear that the event was “not a Trump rally” and that it wasn’t “anti-Representative Cummings” either. Rather, he reiterated the phrase from the poster, saying it was “simply Americans helping Americans.”
