This week, Facebook shared that they removed dozens of political ads from Donald Trump’s re-election campaign. The offensive images in question included a symbol – a red triangle – that was also used by the Nazi’s during the war to designate political prisoners in concentration camps.

Just a few weeks after Trump had it out with Twitter over a fact check label on his tweets, the platform has flagged and pulled a video that was deemed “manipulated media”. Twitter claims that the footage is doctored in a way that was “likely to cause harm”.

What we’re seeing is the real start of Trump’s push to stay in the White House for four more years, and the serious pushback that social media is giving his administration. This is the start of a real war between the current administration and social media, and it’s certainly not going away anytime soon.

No idea yet who will win, but like a game of chess, expect to see slow, calculated progression.
