President Donald Trump trashed 2020 presidential candidate Beto O’Rourke only hours before Trump was scheduled to arrive in the Democrat’s hometown of El Paso, TX.
Trump is supposed to be heading to El Paso to “help heal” the city following the mass shooting that left 22 dead.
O’Rourke has been ripping into Trump over the past several days, pointing out that his rhetoric about Hispanic immigrants was echoed in the shooter’s manifesto. He has also declared Trump a racist, and compared his language to that of Nazi Germany’s Third Reich.
Trump fired back on Twitter, repeating a widely discredited claim that O’Rourke adopted a phony name to appeal to Hispanic voters. O’Rourke represented El Paso in the House of Representatives for six years.
He also told O’Rourke to “respect the victims & law enforcement” and “be quiet!”
O’Rourke responded to Trump’s tweet, saying that “El Paso will not be quiet” and neither will he. He again doubled-down on partially blaming Trump for the shooting, saying that 22 people in his hometown are now dead after the act of terror that was “inspired” by Trump’s racism.
