Melania wouldn’t shed a tear if something happened to her husband, according to Donald Trump. Many memes have been created and jokes told about the perceived lack of love between Trump and First Lady Melania.
Ironically, Trump himself seemed to jump in on the joke during a fundraising event with many top GOP donors.
Trump spoke regarding Steve Scalise, a Republican representative who was shot in 2017 during softball practice. Scalise’s assailant, James Hodgkinson, was offed by police when they responded to the scene. Later investigations found Hodgkinson was mentally disturbed, and Scalise made a full recovery from his injuries.
Trump spoke about Scalise’s wife, saying she was “crying her eyes out” when Trump saw her the day that it happened. Whether as a joke or a serious statement about his relationship, Trump added, “I mean not many wives would react that way to tragedy, I know mine wouldn’t.”
While Trump’s comment drew some laughs, some believe it may undercut some serious issues in his relationship with the former model and Slovenian immigrant.
Memes involving Trump and the first lady are numerous on social media. A notable recent example is one of Trump and Melania handing out candy to kids in Halloween costumes. A little kid in a giant “minion” costume from Despicable Me approaches Trump, who taps the child on top of their costumes with a candy bar.
Then, seemingly not understanding how to put candy in a kid’s Halloween pail, Trump just leaves the candy bar on top of the costume’s big, flat head. Melania then follows suit, also putting a full candy bar on the Minion’s head. The child then begins to walk away, seemingly unaware of what has happened, as both candy bars fall from the top of the costume. The next kid in line just gets twice the candy, it seems.
The reaction to Trump’s bizarre method of candy delivery online has been equal parts confused and hilarious. Many questioned whether Trump has ever been trick-or-treating, or if he understands the practice at all.
In either case, the bizarre event is even more fuel for ongoing memes regarding the president and his wife.
