Senior Defense Official Confirms Trump’s Remarks about Dead Veterans

The allegations that Trump called veterans “losers” and “suckers,” was first reported in The Atlantic. A senior U.S. Marine Corps officer and a senior Defense Department official with firsthand knowledge of events both confirmed some of the remarks to The Associated Press.

The officials referred to comments made by Trump about the American war veterans during a 2018 visit to the Aisne-Marne American Cemetery in France.

Trump allegedly begged not to visit the cemetery during a meeting that followed his presidential daily briefing on the morning of Nov. 10, 2018. The canceled visit was eventually blamed on poor weather by The White House.

Staffers had told Trump that rainy weather that day could make helicopter travel risky, but said driving there would be okay. However, Trump said he didn’t want to visit.

His reasoning was that he didn’t want to visit the cemetery because it was “filled with losers.”

Similarly, Trump made comments about 1,800 Marines as well. He called those who died during World War I “suckers” for getting killed.

Not only that, but the defense officials confirmed that on Memorial Day 2017, Trump visited the gravesite of John Kelly’s son, Robert. Robert was killed in 2018 in Afghanistan. Trump, speaking to Kelly, said “I don’t get it. What was in it for them?”

Additionally, when flags were flown at half-staff for the late John McCain, Trump allegedly said, “What the f— are we doing that for? Guy was a f—ing loser.”

Trump also publicly blasted McCain in 2015, saying, “He’s not a war hero. I like people who weren’t captured.”

Trump Denies Report Saying He Called Dead War Veterans “losers” and “suckers”

After returning to Washington following a campaign rally in Pennsylvania, Trump spoke to reporters about the disparaging remarks he made against dead war vets. However, his recounting of the story was different, since he denied everything.

Trump said, “I would be willing to swear on anything that I never said that about our fallen heroes. There is nobody that respects them more. No animal. Nobody. What animal would say such a thing?”

He also reiterated the explanation of why he refused to visit the cemetery that day.

“The helicopter could not fly,” said Trump. “The Secret Service told me you can’t do it. They would never have been able to get the police and everybody else in line to have a president go through a very crowded, very congested area.”

Biden Makes Statement About Trump’s Remarks Against Dead Veterans

Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden spoke about the allegations made against President Trump on Thursday.

“If the revelations in today’s Atlantic article are true, then they are yet another marker of how deeply President Trump and I disagree about the role of the President of the United States,” said Biden.

“Duty, honor, country. Those are the values that drive our service members. I will ensure that our American heroes know that I will have their back and honor their sacrifice. Always.”

Joe Biden’s son, Beau, served in Iraq from 2008 to 2009. Beau Biden died on May 30, 2015. He was 46 years old.
