In yet another questionable Twitter tirade, Donald Trump has made more false claims regarding the 2016 presidential debates.
Echoing a similar sentiment from three years ago, Trump again declared that he “won EVERY debate” against Hillary Clinton. This is despite evidence that numerous polls and focus groups indicated results to the contrary.
Trump alleged that his wins were “according to the Polls.” However, data from several different polling companies show Clinton outperforming Trump in all three debates.
Why this would be relevant now is unclear, though Trump made the same claims soon after the debates happened also. At the time, he was found to have been incorrect about polling data then as well.
He erroneously his followers he’d won “the second debate in a landslide (every poll).” All major organizations, however, shared poling data that showed Clinton as the clear winner. Trump victories were declared by several informal online polls, though many were skewed by a partisan demographic.
As a result, Trump was heavily criticized for being untruthful.
It’s unclear what Trump means by the claim that his sound was “modulated” in the first debate. Though it’s assumed he was referencing microphone troubles, implying he was intentionally sabotaged.
The Commission on Presidential Debates did admit that there were “issues” that “affected the sound level in the debate hall.” However, this did not prevent viewers at home from being able to hear then-candidate Trump.
Trump’s tweet referencing the 3-year-old debates comes amid other posts to the social platform. In typical Trumpian fashion, he also attacked the media (as well as the state of New York), and declared: “The Economy is the BEST IT HAS EVER BEEN!”
