Tom Brady retires from NFL after 22 years leaves behind numerous all-time records

Putting an end to several days of speculation, legendary NFL quarterback Tom Brady officially announced his retirement on Tuesday morning in a post on Instagram.

“This is difficult for me to write, but here it goes: I am not going to make that competitive commitment anymore,” Brady continued. “I have loved my NFL career, and now it is time to focus my time and energy on other things that require my attention… It’s best I leave the field of play to the next generation of dedicated and committed athletes.”

After 22 years in the National Football League, Brady achieved a record seven Super Bowl titles, five Super Bowl most valuable player awards, and 15 Pro Bowl 15 appearances, WCVB reported.

Brady finishes his career as the NFL’s all-time leader in passing yards at 84,520, passing touchdowns at 624, and passes completed at 7,263, CNBC reported.

Whoopi Goldberg draws backlash after saying Holocaust was “not about race”

Host of ABC’s The View, Whoopi Goldberg, has drawn backlash after claiming the Holocaust “was not about race,” but involved “two groups of white people,” the BBC reported.

“The Holocaust isn’t about race,” Goldberg said on the show on Monday. “It’s about man’s inhumanity to other man.”

“These are two white groups of people,” Goldberg said.

Sarah Haynes, a cohost, pointed out the Nazis didn’t see the Jews “as white.”

“But you’re missing the point!” Goldberg argued. “The minute you turn it into race, it goes down this alley. Let’s talk about it for what it is. It’s how people treat each other. It’s a problem.”

Whoopi apologizes

Whoopi Goldberg apologized on Tuesday’s episode of The View, with the show featuring guest Jonathan Greenblatt, CEO of the Anti-Defamation League and author of “It Could Happen Here,” to discuss why her words had been hurtful, WNYT reported. Goldberg also apologized on social media late Monday.

“They dehumanize them and use this racist propaganda to justify slaughtering 6 million Jews,” Greenblatt said of the Nazis in a tweet on Monday. “Holocaust distortion is dangerous.”

Weather predicting Milltown Mel dies day before Groundhog Day

A day shy of the significant weather prediction on Groundhog Day, February 2, Milltown Mel passed away on Tuesday, Fox5 NY reported.

According to tradition, early spring is predicted if the furry animal does not see its shadow every groundhog day. If it sees its shadow, it allegedly means six more weeks of winter.

“We Wranglers are sad to report that Milltown Mel recently crossed over the rainbow bridge,” a Facebook post said. “Considering the average lifespan of a Groundhog is about three years, that is not such a shock, but Mel left us at a tough time of year when most of his fellow groundhogs are hibernating.”

Apart from the more famous Groundhog Day celebration that is held in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, with a groundhog known as Punxsutawney Phil, Groundhog’s Day was an annual celebration in New Jersey with Milltown Mel.
