A 3-year-old with leukemia got a big surprise from Dwayne Johnson, otherwise known as The Rock. We’ve known for a long time that The Rock is a good dude with a big heart, and this video he shared on his Instagram just continues to prove that to be true.
He recorded and shared a video of him speaking to and singing to the struggling little boy, whose favorite movie is Moana. The Rock played his favorite character – a big, strong man named Maui who “makes him feel strong”.
Can you feel your heart melt, too?
According to The Rock, when this request “came across his desk” he couldn’t not respond. The message goes out to a 3-year-old little boy named Hyrum Harris suffering from leukemia, which is complicated further by his Down Syndrome.
According to Hyrum’s mother, he watched Moana up to ten times a day because he loves the character Maui, voiced by The Rock. It makes Hyrum feel strong, and his favorite saying right now is “I STRONG”.
The Rock was so moved by Hyrum and his story and the recorded this video, in which he sings a little bit from the soundtrack and talks to Hyrum about strength. The video is nearly 3 minutes long, and it really shows how loving and personal The Rock is.
The Rock says that “he hopes” this video reaches Hyrum and his family, but he was apparently unsure it would. But never fear – Hyrum’s mother got the video and shared it with her son, along with his reaction.
Hyrum’s mother said that she was “blown away” by the support from The Rock, and the outpouring of love and support his fans have shown her family.
“He’s watched Moana over and over. It’s what he does on his hardest days. He watched the video from Dwayne again… while watching Moana.” She shared. “I love when he smiles… it reminds me that cancer is not taking our body, just his energy.”
According to the family’s GoFundMe page, Hyrum is the youngest of seven children the Harris’ have. He was diagnosed in October of this year, but his family calls him “the sunlight in our day”.
Hyrum is facing 3 years of chemo, much of which must be spent at the hospital for long stretches due to his fragile health.
“Joy and hope cost nothing and yet, is the most powerful gift we can give. That’s the real magic to life.” The Rock shared.
