How the ranking & rating works

Glassdoor allows employees and former employees to give feedback and rate the companies they work or have worked for. Glassdoor then uses this information to power a rating system which is applied to each company.

Companies are rated on a score of 0-5, with 5.0 being the highest score. As a result, there is no company that actually achieved a 5.0 rating, with the highest rating achieve this year a 4.6.

Secondly, for a company to be rated by Glassdoor they must meet certain requirements. One of the requirements is that all companies included on its list must have a minimum of 1,000 employees.

The top companies to work for

There are three companies that have consistently appeared in the top 100 for the past 11 years. Those companies are: Bain & Company, Google and Apple. And surprisingly, Apple did not make the top 25 for 2019. Google is #8.

Out of the most consistent top three, Bain & Company has been at the highest positions more than any other company.  Bain & Company has achieved the top spot four times, only dipping below #1 once since 2012, when it was ranked #2 in 2013.

According to employee comments on Glassdoor, what makes working for Bain & Company favorable is the other people who work there, the compensation employees receive, and the community-based work environment that management cultivates and nurtures.
