Right now in Texas, according to the Texas Department of State Health Services, there are 1,935 COVID-19 patients in hospitals across the state. The state’s previous record of daily hospitalizations was 1,888 patients on May 5.
The numbers are rising. What does this mean for the country?
Texas was one of the first states to reopen after nationwide stay-at-home orders shut the economy down. Most businesses resumed operations around May 1.
As of now, COVID-19 has infected over 75,400 people in Texas, according to Johns Hopkins University data.
Texas is not an isolated case. Coronavirus cases are rising across the country as several states begin to reopen. The novel coronavirus has now infected over 1.95 million people in the U.S. It has killed at least 110,700.
However, this doesn’t all mean that there will be a second surge right away. Experts are looking at the numbers, but it’s still too early to tell what will happen.
We will be keeping a close eye as the case numbers come in across the nation post-lockdown. The lockdowns’ effectiveness will become more clear as more states experiment with reopening their economies.
