Following his testimony, Tekashi 6ix9ine has a lot of people upset with him. After a huge trial that led to him ‘ratting out’ several major hip-hop and rap artists as gang members, fans and authorities alike are all concerned for his safety outside of jail.
It’s not like you can hide a giant 69 on your forehead, after all. And he has already publicly rejected witness protection anyway, saying he chooses to stay famous instead.
So, is Tekashi 6ix9ine really at risk, and what is his plan when he steps outside of those prison walls?
Yes, he really is at risk; and no, it doesn’t seem like he has too much of a plan.
Takashi 6ix9nine (real name Daniel Hernandez) is still behind bars right now, but he could leave prison as early as 2020 – just a few months from now if you haven’t paid attention to the fact that it’s October already.
He is facing charges for federal racketeering and firearms, as well as a variety of other, smaller charges, and could face upwards of 45+ years in prison. At only 23, he could be in prison until he was 60 or older if given the maximum sentence.
He initially pleaded not guilty to the charges, but at the urging of his lawyers, he took a plea bargain that would allow him a reduced sentence in exchange for information about people he knew and worked with that had gang ties.
Tekashi is no stranger to law troubles – he narrowly escaped jail in 2015 for inappropriate conduct with a minor. Yes, that kind of inappropriate conduct.
Hernandez did not make friends when he took the plea deal, which is no surprise, but you have to think he didn’t fully realize the ramifications of his actions.
He testified against Anthony ‘Harv’ Ellison and Aljermiah ‘Nuke’ Mack, who were both found guilty in a courtroom, as well as linking famous rappers like Cardi B and Jim Jones to the Trey Nine subset of the Bloods gang.
Hernandez says that he was a member for less than a year, but used all the information he gathered during that time to save himself a harsh jail sentence.
He has made it clear that once free of prison, he wishes to jump right back in where he left off and start making music again. The rapper is worth an estimated $5 million, but providing your own security against rich gang members can’t be cheap, so we’re not sure how far that will go for him.
Snoop Dogg shared a post on his Instagram calling Hernandez a snitch, and Meek Mills commented on it, referring to him as a ‘ratgoon’.
Will there even be a place for Tekashi 6ix9ine in the music scene once he’s out? And will the Bloods let him stick around long enough to find out?
If he continues to refuse witness or police protection, there is no way to know.
