The 16-year-old who was identified as the suspect in the incident at Saugus High School in Santa Clarita, California on Tuesday may have left a message online that warned of what was about to happen.
The message was discovered on Instagram and was believed to have belonged to Nathaniel Berhow, who has been accused of firing at five students, before turning his weapon towards himself. He is now hospitalized in grave condition after being apprehended.
The biography on the Instagram account in question read, “Saugus, have fun at school tomorrow,” says authorities. The message was posted on Thursday morning, but the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s officials aren’t sure about the exact time. The message was removed later on, but authorities don’t know who did it.
Dailymail reached out to Instagram and was told that the account doesn’t belong to Berhow. However, the police believe it was actually made by him and are currently investigating whether he gave his password to a friend, or if the account may have been hacked.
On Thursday, November 14, Saugus High School was attacked by a 16-year-old student who attended the school, on his birthday. Two students sadly passed away, while three others were wounded. The suspect then tried to injure himself and is now in grave condition at a local hospital.
The boy was known for being pleasant, but had lost his father two years ago to a heart attack – and it was noted that this passing seemed to have changed him. Brooke Risley, a 16-year-old junior said the suspect was a quiet, normal student who ran cross country, and was a boy scout. Risley said, “He doesn’t seem like the kind of kid to do this.”
The victims of the incident included a 14-year-old boy and a 16-year old girl, who haven’t been publically identified yet. Of the three students who were injured, one is in fair condition, while the other two are in good condition.
No relationship has been identified between the suspect and those who were injured and lost their lives aside from attending the same school.
