You’ll want to hear this summer playlist that Barack Obama just shared on Instagram. He called it a “sampling” of what he and Michelle have been listening to this summer, and it includes some surprising choices for the former President of the United States.
I guess the statement “everyone is listening to Old Town Road” really is true!
The list of 44 songs, a nod to his time as the 44th President, is an interesting collection of new music and older classics together.
Songs by Frank Sinatra (“I’ve Got You Under my Skin”) and Stevie Wonder (“Don’t You Worry ‘Bout a Thing”) made the list, as well as classics like “Brown Eyed Girl” by Van Morrison. In a true romantic note, “I Love You More Than You’ll Ever Know” by Donny Hathaway is number 21, showing us that Barack still has that same love for Michelle we all called couple goals when they were living in the White House.
The new music additions include music from Lizzo (“Juice”) and the new couple Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello (“Senorita”). No one is surprised to see Beyonce and Jay-Z on the list either, as they are long-time friends.
“Old Town Road” made number 40, further proving that the earworm of the summer is still going strong.

Being acknowledged by someone as important as Barack Obama is a big deal, and some of the singers on the list are freaking out on social media about their placement.
Maggie Rogers, who came in at #4 with her single “Burning”, shared a video of her on Instagram. The singer is clearly on vacation, but her beach status didn’t stop her from screaming in the camera.
Lizzo, who came in at #6 with her single “Juice”, tweeted at 10:26 am on August 24th that the first president she had ever voted for Barack Obama, and that she was proud she was able to make that choice.
Just an hour later, Obama shared his list. “IM NOT OK” was her first response to one person, who said “someone check on @lizzo”. She retweeted a picture of her original tweet, and Obama’s list, saying “WE’RE FRIENDS NOW I DON’T MAKE THE RULES”.
Lil Nas tweeted a photograph of Barack’s face on his (very shirtless) body, and posted on the Instagram post “ayeeee”. 2 Chainz, who came in at #23, tweeted that meeting Obama was on his bucket list but making his summer playlist will “work for now”.
Earlier this month, Obama also shared his reading list for the summer, which included the full works of Toni Morrison.
