This NFL player died on Wednesday evening while visiting his grandmother in Richmond, California. He wasn’t doing anything illegal, or wrong, as far as his family is aware. But someone entered the property and ended this player’s life.
Terrell Roberts, 38, the former Cincinnati Bengals player, passed away that night. There is no motive, or suspect, named at this time.
Terrell Roberts played for the Bengals for 3 seasons, a total of 23 games, before suffering a knee injury and being removed from the team.
He was born in Berkeley, California, and attended El Cerrito High School, where he was a stand-out star on their football team, and started for two years.
He went to Oregon State University before joining the Bengals, and according to at least one biography written while he was attending college, he was in the College of Liberal Arts as a pre-communications major.
He was a defensive back for the Bengals, and was a popular figure in his community, even after leaving the NFL. One news reporter ran into him at a gas station and had nothing but nice things to say.
“I also met Terrell’s wonderful son… I know he makes his hometown proud, and, he STILL looks like he could play TODAY in the NFL!”
There is almost no information on his passing at the time of writing.
A local news station said that according to police on the scene, an unidentified man walked into his grandmother’s home on the 1200 block of Fascination Circle with a gun and ended his life, before apparently getting away – there are no suspects in custody.
His family, when making a statement about the incident, said that Terrell had “a heart of gold”, and insisted that the former NFL star wasn’t “mixed up in anything bad”.
Many former fans and good friends have taken to the internet to express sadness and outrage at Terrell’s tragic end.
One man posted that “RIP I was literally texting with him two weeks ago”, while Tim Euhus, who played with Roberts at Oregon State University, said “Lost another teammate. Must be getting old…”
