There are some things you really need to keep to yourself! Like in this instance, a man told his roommate that he had just won the $10 million lottery. This led to the roommate swapped the winning ticket with a fake one.
Thankfully for the real winner, the false friend was later arrested by authorities as he tried to claim the winning ticket for himself at the California lottery office.
A lottery player in Vacaville, California told his roommate, Adul Saosongyang, that he had a winning Scratchers ticket which he had bought on December 20 for $30 that was worth $10 million.
However, when the player went to turn in his winning ticket the next day, officials told him he wasn’t in fact holding a real winning ticket. Not only that, authorities said the ticket he was holding had been altered.
The player then suspected that Saosongyang had switched tickets while he was sleeping, which led to him calling the authorities to explain what he believed had happened.
Authorities, acting on the information the player gave them, conducted a thorough investigation, and then set up a trap for Saosongyang, rightfully assuming he would attempt to cash in on the winning ticket. Authorities instructed Saosongyang that it was necessary to go to the lottery office in Sacramento in order to claim the $10 million prize.
A day later, authorities were waiting at the lottery office in Sacramento, where Saosongyang had been told to go so that he could collect his winnings, and collect his winnings he did!
Saosongyang, 35, was arrested and charged with grand theft upon trying to claim the winning ticket and currently remains in custody at the Sacramento County Jail.
A smarter friend would have waited to see if his friend would have willingly given him some of the spoils. Now he gets to spoil in jail instead.
