“I don’t even care,” said Kelly Clarkson, when she was put on the spot for stealing.
This former American Idol winner certainly seemed to mean that, too – Kelly hit the buzzer to steal an artist on The Voice last night more than any other judge by a longshot, and did manage to snag Kiara Brown, 22, from Gwen Stefani.
Kiara first auditioned with the song “Free Fallin” by Tom Petty. At the time of her audition, Clarkson had called her voice and song “pretty”, but Blake Shelton, Gwen’s beau, was the first to hit his buzzer.
Gwen made the spin just before the song ended, and she was the one who ended with Kiara – John Legend and Clarkson didn’t buzz in to represent her. Clarkson said she sang with her “head voice” too much, and could go big, but didn’t.
Isn’t that what the show is for? To train these new artists?
Clarkson didn’t see the potential in Kiara then, apparently, but when she did her duet of “Turn The Lights Down Low” by Bob Marley, Kelly was sold.
“I should have turned for you in the blinds. You came out here and commanded the stage.” Kelly apologized to Kiara.
“I made a mistake.”
It’s hard to tell when this country singer is actually frustrated and when he’s teasing (is that something the No Doubt superstar likes in a man?), but he gave Clarkson a hard time as she continually hit the Steal button last night.
“You’ve hit your button more than anybody else for steals when clearly means you’ve lost.”
“I don’t even care.” Clarkson shot back. “I believe in a lot of people.” Maybe if she had believed more during the blind auditions, she wouldn’t have had to steal so many now?
Kelly Clarkson has somehow snuck in and turned from average pop star fame to having an impressive following recently.
Not only is she on this season of The Voice as one of four judges who choose and coach singers based on their blind auditions, but she has her own talk show on NBC, The Kelly Clarkson Show. First premiering in early September, she’s had major stars on like Dwayne Johnson, Jennifer Garner, Jessica Alba, and Meghan Trainor.
Her ‘catch’ is that she sings a cover at the start of each show – she calls it ‘Kelly-oke’. Some of them, like her cover of Lizzo’s “Juice”, has gone viral.
