Momoa fans are going to be shocked at his new look in the trailer for the Apple TV Plus series See. It’s been years since Momoa’s role on Game of Thrones wrapped up, and there’s only so many times you can watch Aquaman.
Now, we’ve got another great show to watch the ripped actor cracking skulls on!
The premise of the new show, from Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight, is strange, to say the least. In a far-future dystopian nightmare world, a virus has wiped out most of humanity. Those who weren’t killed were instead blinded by the virus.
Apple promises the show will be Apple’s answer to Game of Thrones, filling the fantasy-shaped hole in prestige TV that Thrones left behind.
The fan-favorite actor will be playing a chieftain named Baba Voss. In the trailer, we learn that the hulking Voss fathers twins who are miraculously born with the ability to see. The twins quickly become the focal point of controversy, as the primitive civilization fights over whether such a mythical ability is evil or magical, and if the twins should be heralded or destroyed.
Voss will contend with an evil queen of a rival tribe who wants the twins dead, fearing their ability to see. The queen is desperate, believing the twins’ ability to be some form of witchcraft and a herald of chaos, calamity, and destruction.
Jason Momoa isn’t the only star power on display in See: Alfre Woodard, known for her roles in both Captain America: Civil War and Luke Cage, will play Paris. Paris will act as a spiritual guide to Baba Voss, helping him through the trials of protecting the twins.
According to Apple, the series will be written by Knight and directed by Francis Lawrence. Lawrence was made famous by his direction of I Am Legend and Hunger Games: Catching Fire. Reports have also indicated that a number of the crew members and cast members are people who are either blind or have low vision.
Not only is this authentic to the show’s premise, but it’s also a pretty respectable step of inclusion from Apple.
Notably, as you might have gathered from the above trailer, inclusivity for blind fans of the show is already a consideration. The official trailer has audio descriptions so blind fans of See can get hyped for the new show, too!
