Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Claims Drone Entered Iranian Airspace

The Revolutionary Guard says that they have shot down an “intruding American spy drone” after it entered Iranian airspace near the Kouhmobarak district north of the Strait of Hormuz.

According to them, the downed drone was a RQ-4 Global Hawk, which is an unmanned surveillance aircraft.

U.S. Officials Say Iranian Reports Are False

U.S. officials have also confirmed that a drone has been shot down, but details are being disputed. According to U.S. officials, the incident occurred when the drone was flying in international airspace over the Strait of Hormuz, which is one of the world’s most vital shipping routes.

They have also gone on record to say that the downed drone was actually a MQ-4C Triton.

Navy Captain Bill Urban, U.S. Central Command spokesperson, released a statement saying that Iranian reports of the aircraft violating Iran’s territory are false, and called the incident an “unprovoked attack” in international airspace.
