Anyone who’s a parent can tell you about how real their protective instincts can be.
That’s especially true of Albert Passavanti, whose heroic rescue of his son was recently caught on video.
One Sunday afternoon, Passavanti and his family were spending an afternoon at the pool in sunny Palm Beach County, Florida. Everything seemed fine, until suddenly he noticed his toddler fall into the pool. His son – not even two years old yet – did not know how to swim.
The moment the father realized the danger his son was in, he sprung to his feet. The 4-foot fence did not even slow him down as he leaped over it, instantly diving into the water.
His quick thinking and lightning-fast reflexes likely saved the life of his son.
“The second you see it,” Passavanti said, “you get Superman strength and just have to go for it.” The father said it had not even crossed his mind to go around the fence.
Though there had been a fence around the pool, it clearly wasn’t baby proof. Posting the video to Facebook, he cautioned other parents: “Baby gates only work when you close them.”
According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, for children between the ages of 1 and 4, drowning is the number one cause of death.
The AAP suggests parents stay close by and avoid distractions anytime young children are in or around water.
