Convicted sex criminal, rapist and disgraced film mogul Harvey Weinstein was injured in Riker’s Island prison, according to his publicist. Against Weinstein’s lawyer advice, he was sentenced to spend time in Riker’s Island after his court case. According to his publicist, Juda Englemayer, Weinstein fell while walking in prison and thinks he may have a concussion.
Weinstein’s publicist confirmed that the former film mogul is often unsteady when walking and gets dizzy often. He has not been allowed to use a walker in prison, which could have contributed to his recent fall. Weinstein, 67, has seen his health deteriorate markedly since his numerous sexual assaults were made public.
Weinstein was seen walking with a walker during his trial. Some critics alleged he didn’t need it. They thought he was only using it to drum up sympathy from the jury.
Some have noted that he could be experiencing something akin to “stress aging.” That’s why we are rapidly seeing his wellbeing disintegrate.
He also had surgery shortly after his sentencing. Doctors had to put a stent in his heart.
On Thursday, he was moved to the Riker’s Island infirmary after his fall.
“Harvey says his head throbs all the time and thinks he has a concussion. He has not been officially diagnosed,” publicist Englemayer told reporters.
Now that the news broke, many people are finding it hard to sympathize with the convicted serial rapist. Some even seemed happy that Weinstein was struggling so mightily in prison, unable to use a walker to support himself.
Englemayer stated that, after speaking to Weinstein on the phone, he sounds contemplative and almost remorseful. The publicist stated Weinstein “had a lot of time to think about his life and what he’s done. He said he wasn’t a nice guy and that’s how he got here.”
Many would say “not being a nice guy” is a very gentle way to frame Weinstein’s numerous crimes.
Harvey Weinstein was convicted on two major counts: one for rape in the first degree, and another for rape in the third degree, each involving a different woman.
He was not found guilty of the significantly more serious charge of predatory rape, which would have carried a longer sentence.
Weinstein has not yet been sentenced, though some expect him to spend as long as ten years in prison for his crimes. Given his rapidly deteriorating health, Weinstein may not be leaving prison, his sentence notwithstanding.
