If you’re still using Google+ as a social network you may want to consider deleting your profile. The network has been hit with a second breach affecting over 52.5 million users worldwide.
That is twice now in a few months that hackers have breached data on the Google+ social network. Google claims the breach only affected personal profile information and the intruders were not able to access financial data, passwords, or any other information that could be used for fraud or identity theft. Google claims the bug has since been patched.
The previous breach, affected about 500,000 people. While hackers were able to snag personal profile information, Google claims the intruders did not procure any financial data or passwords. Following the breach, Google announced they would be shutting down the Google+ network in August 2019.
Now, hackers have struck a second time, this time exposing over 100 times the amount of users who were affected the first time at over 52.5 million people. Google says they are going to shut down their Google+ social media network four months sooner been previously scheduled, with a new final date of April 2019.
With Google still waiting at least five months from now to close down their network, and the fact that they were struck twice within a few months from the first event, the best way to protect your information might be to close your account now.
It only takes a few minutes and a few steps to delete your profile from Google+.
*PAY CLOSE ATTENTION: Make sure that it is only your Google+ profile you are deleting and not your Google account.
