A former “Glee” actress is missing and presumed dead. On Wednesday, she took her 4-year-old out on a boat on a lake north of Los Angeles. He was later found alone on the boat, and she was nowhere to be found.
Around 1 pm on Wednesday, former “Glee” actress Naya Rivera rented a boat at Lake Piru in Ventura County. Three hours later, her son, Josey Hollis Dorsey, was found by another boater, according to KCAL-TV in Los Angeles.
Josey, whose father is actor Ryan Dorsey, was reunited with family members after he was safely rescued.
“There’s no evidence of foul play at this point,” said a spokesman for the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office, Capt. Eric Buschow. “This may well be a case of drowning.”
A search was conducted for Rivera, including dive teams–but it was suspended for the night late on Wednesday after going on for hours.
“There’s a lot of challenges in a reservoir this size at times with visibility,” said Ventura County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Eric Buschow to reporters. “I don’t have details yet as to the depth of the area where the boat was found or what conditions they’re encountering out there.”

According to KNBC, the sheriff’s department revealed that while Rivera’s son was wearing a life jacket, she herself wasn’t. Rivera had taken her son swimming during their excursion on the pontoon boat, and he got back into the boat.
However, Rivera didn’t join him for whatever reason. The sheriff’s department said the search was called off until first light Thursday morning. As a result, FIND HER trended on Twitter.

Some believe the search should have continued through the night. Nevertheless, the department had to consider the safety of the rescue teams, since overnight water rescues can be dangerous. After brewing coffee and getting a fresh start, conditions could be much safer.

Rivera is well known for playing the role of Santana Lopez on “Glee.” Most recently, she played Collette Jones in the series “Step Up: High Water.”
The cast of “Glee” seems to have a curse, as two of the former cast members lost their lives over the past few years. Cory Monteith died on July 13, 2013, and Mark Salling died on January 30, 2018.
Here’s hoping that Rivera is found safely.
