A camera caught the ghost of what appears to be a small child in footage recently uploaded to YouTube.
The video taken from a nest home security camera shows a typical living area, as well as a cat lying on the floor. While that all seems pretty normal, soon a strange sight comes into view from the right side of the screen.
A blurry outline appears and appears to move back and forth several times before it fades away. The cat does not react.
The clip was uploaded by Joey Nolan just days ago, though the footage was apparently captured on August 8.
“At 12:54 am our security camera picked up a strange visitor walking through the kitchen,” Nolan said in the video’s description.
Some viewers claim the footage shows the “ghost of a little boy,” or as Nolan noted, “a little boy and their pet.” However, he says they “don’t know for sure” what it is, exactly.
One commenter questioned whether there’d been a death in the family, to which Nolan replied there had not. He added that they were “digging into the house’s history,” however.
Though several folks believe the footage shows a ghost, it’s exceedingly unlikely that it’s an actual apparition in the video.
For one thing, there’s little contextual information that would indicate the presence of a ghost. Additionally, it’s not uncommon for spiders, dust, or various insects to cause similar effects in home security camera footage.
Though even some of our own writers insist it’s proof of ghosts, others are dismissive of the notion. Frequently, people mistake dust motes and out-of-focus bugs as signs of paranormal activity.
Still, videos of suspected hauntings are quite popular online, even when many are refuted by science.
Some captured-on-camera hauntings are certainly more convincing than others.
Early this year, a grieving mother claimed she saw her “dead son’s ghost” in home security footage. The “transparent” figure allegedly triggered the camera’s motion detection sensor.
In that case, viewers could actually see what looked like a semi-transparent person walking through the kitchen.
Of course, most home security cameras produce rather low-quality footage, especially when it’s dark. Our eyes can certainly play tricks on us, too, as can those who upload ghost sightings online.
That’s why it’s best to take videos like this one with a grain of salt – and/or some holy water, depending on your beliefs.
