A British mother recently delivered not only twins, but another surprise along the way.
Minutes after her newborns Harper and Quinn were born, doctors told her that daughter Harper has Down syndrome. The chromosome disorder and subsequent hole in Harper’s heart had not been detected in ultrasounds while mom Nicola Bailey was pregnant.
To her and husband Todd, Harper is no less of a blessing.
“All I remember is the doctor saying, ‘I’m sorry,”‘ said Nicola. But to her, there was no need to apologize. “As soon as I saw them both, my heart just melted. They were both so beautiful.”
Nicola’s attitude about the experience is nothing short of inspiring, and she hopes she can help stop others from viewing the condition as a shortcoming.
“Harper is Harper and Quinn is Quinn,” said the mother about her newborns. “They are not the same so I try not to compare them, however hard that may be.”
“Our family is unique and I wouldn’t change it for the world,” she added.
