The 37-year-old pop star had already put her Las Vegas residency on hold amid concerns for her father’s failing health. Now, it appears she has become even more distraught over his worsening condition.

Because of the increasing emotional strain, she will reportedly be spending the next month at the unspecified facility.

Father’s Illness

Jamie Spears, the singer’s father, suffered from a ruptured colon towards the end of last year. TMZ reports he has since “had 2 surgeries to correct major issues with his intestines and colon.” Since his most recent surgery, complications have arisen. However, further details have not been revealed at this time.

Residency on Hold

Back in January, Britney announced that her “Britney: Domination” Vegas shows would have to wait. Though she admitted it was heartbreaking to cancel her performances.

“A couple of months ago, my father was hospitalized and almost died,” she posted on Instagram at the time. “We’re all so grateful that he came out of it alive, but he still has a long road ahead of him. I had to make the difficult decision to put my full focus and energy on my family at this time.”

Britney’s Relationship with her Father

If you’ll remember, back in 2007 Britney had a bit of a mental health meltdown. She shaved her head, threatened paparazzi with an umbrella, and was pretty much off the deep end. That’s when her father really stepped back into her life.

Since 2008, she has been under his conservatorship due to her mental health issues that had arisen the year prior. Last year, there was some talk of ending the conservatorship, however, it does not appear that has yet happened.

Britney reportedly suffers from bipolar disorder, diagnosed back in 2008 when she checked into UCLA Medical Center’s psych ward. At the time, she was also embroiled in a custody battle with ex-husband Kevin Federline.

“Me Time”

On April 3, as news broke regarding her checking into a mental health facility, Britney posted a message on Instagram.

The image read: “fall in love with taking care of yourself, mind, body, spirit.”

“We all need to take time for a little ‘me time,’ she captioned the post, punctuating it with a smile.
