A Wolverhampton electrician was fed up with thieves, so he’s wired his van to deliver a 1,000-volt zap to anyone trying to break in.
Ray Taylor, 61, says he lost more than $6,000 worth of equipment out of his work van in two years, thanks to thieves. He knew that he had to do something.
Taylor used a 1,000-volt zapper out of a fly swatter to deliver the shock. It is fitted to a metal plate in the rear door handle of the van. This means that the shock is isolated to the handle, and the rest of the van is not live.
When the van is locked, pulling at the rear door handle activates the system, and there are also sensors on all of the van’s doors to also trigger it.
It does more than just zap the would-be thief, too. The system also includes a flashing strobe light, an alarm, and two sound bombs that are louder than a jumbo jet taking off.
While not enough to do any lasting damage, Ray Taylor says that this system is enough to scare the thieves off. He says that now he “can sleep easy.”
