Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, went into labor early Monday morning with her first child. Husband Prince Harry was reportedly by her side. The two welcomed a baby boy into the royal family.
The announcement came from Buckingham Palace early Monday morning, a rare decree from a couple that has maintained a high level of privacy since their marriage last May.
The royal baby will be seventh in line for the throne and also the seventh great-grandchild of Queen Elizabeth II. In the family succession tree, he or she will sit behind father Harry, Prince William’s three children (Louis, Charlotte, George), Prince William himself, and then Prince Charles.
The birth also makes history as the first biracial child in the British Royal Family.
Since the Duchess’ pregnancy was announced last October, exact details have been murky and the exact due date was only known to be sometime in the spring.
