Presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden has finally said he will choose his vice presidential running mate next week.
On Tuesday, Democratic nominee Joe Biden said he will finally choose who will run alongside him as his vice presidential running mate next week. His comment came during a news conference after he gave a speech in Wilmington, Delaware. When asked by CNN whether he’d meet in-person with finalists for the role of VP, Biden said, “We’ll see.”
Biden has already made it clear that he intends to choose a female running mate, and has been repeatedly encouraged within his party to choose a woman of color. However, the pandemic has made things difficult. It is hard to hold meetings for the campaign’s vetting process while a deadly virus continues to spread.
During the news conference, Biden joked about the presence of news crews stationed outside of his home. You can’t help but wonder if those news crews have a car for lease or similar. He said he was “going to try to figure out how to trick you all so I can meet with them in person. I don’t think that matters, actually,” said Biden.

It wasn’t long after Joe Biden clinched the Democratic nomination that he targeted the beginning of August as his goal to select a running mate. On Tuesday, he said again that his selection will happen during the first week of August.
However, the comments Biden made on Tuesday did not indicate when he’d publicly announce his selection – just that he’d make a selection by then. But one thing is certain. He will make his announcement before the Democratic National Convention kicks off on August 17 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
There are two women who pundits believe have the best chance at the Democratic ticket. Both are former primary rivals for Biden: Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren and California Sen. Kamala Harris.
However, there is another running mate that many wish could be a possibility for Joe Biden: Michelle Obama.
Unfortunately, the word on the street is that she’d prefer to stay out of the limelight, even though the possibility might provide a much-needed boost to the Democratic party’s chance of winning the election.
